Ant Farm Update

For all the many people on edge, waiting to know the fate of our ants, have I got a treat for you.

Remember, they had a small funeral:
After which something strange began to radiate from the grave:Well, it took over the farm.
Note the little tunnel about half way down. They dug that in apparent attempt to head off the fungus, which eventually jumped the tunnel. Now some ants are yellow, and others spend all their time on the clean side of the farm.

It was a great chance to teach the kids about quarantine procedures. :-)

I always wanted and ant farm as a kid. I think I will get one when I have kids!

I'm not a fan of them, I just don't think it is my right to decide the fate of other beings.

I still remember that day when my Dad sat me down and had the Proper Quarantine Procedures talk. Awkward.

So... no parenting for you, QU?

playa there is a difference between raising kids to be good citizens and keeping ants in confinement. I just don't believe its my right to decide on animals captivity, its not nearly as bad as cages and stuff but the concept bothers me.

Here's my kids ant farm!

IT'S WRONG TO LET KIDS HAVE PETS.

How are they to learn caring for others, responsibility, and quarantine proceedures?

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAISING KIDS AND SUMMONING DOOM FOR GOD'S CREATURES.

QU, you wet blanket, you need a bird. Go buy a cockatiel .

For the record, I thought it best to stay out of the ant farm debate. The rate of return is too tiny in a number of ways. But as it continued on here:

In the continuum from virus to human, I do draw the line of "wrong to confine" well higher in brain function than ants. Insects certainly are on one side, but I'd not keep a chimp farm, for example (as playa may point out, aside from our twins). But I also know these aren't going to be precise measurements and they're certainly not easily repeatable between two people.

Fortunately, I'm well tested in tolerating people I respect thinking I'm doing wrong, and I do respect you, QU, for all your work and passion even when it's in areas we do not agree.

Now playa, he may show up to a rally on ant rights with a huge mock up of a magnifying glass, but just look at that avatar. He may bite, but he's just so cute. He's a good gay too, and I'd hate to see y'all not get along.

No worries, I know I am in a minority opinion on the insect issue. Sure, we are more intelligent but they do feel pain, and I am as much for ant rights, as I am for chimps or humans. But anyways, we can agree to disagree, and atleast we are all on the same page for gay equality :)

Okay, but what about gay ants? :-)

I'd be interested to see what exactly is happening. I mean, is this a fungal thing? You'll have to keep us updated as to whether or not this plague continues to spread and the ants end up dead, or what.

I just hope I don't turn yellow and have to get the CDC involved.

...as long as this doesn't turn into Captain Tripps or something like it -- that's all I care.
